The construction of this former abbey chapel, which was made a cathedral in 1742, lasted from the 14th to the 18th century without, however, affecting the homogeneity of the interior Gothic decoration. Only the facade and the north tower are classical. Saint-Pierre has a rectangular plan which ends in a projecting five-sided apse. The church was originally a fortified structure, and there are still turrets topped with spires on the east side. Inside the church, there are three naves of almost equal height. The choir stalls were sculpted by Jean de Vitry in the 15th century. Decorated with large bas-relief figures, they are an exceptional example of Gothic Genevese sculpture. The south stalls were destroyed by fire in 1983; they have, however, been meticulously reconstituted. The Renaissance altarpiece in the north aisle was given to the church in 1553 by Pierre de La Baume, bishop of Geneva. The relics of Saint Claude, placed in the high altar, have attracted generations of pilgrims, including several well-known figures - Queen Anne of Brittany named the daughter she had by Louis XII Claude after her pilgrimage to the church.
